Congratulatory Remarks by Ambassador Van Vranken – ILEA LELD

August 09, 2023

Good morning, I am honored to be the first to congratulate you on your successful completion of the ILEA Law Enforcement Leadership Development Course!

I understand that in addition to working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Diplomatic Security (DS), and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) you had an opportunity to learn about the Customary Court System during a field trip to Kanye. The trip included a presentation facilitated in the Kgotla (hoe-tla) by regional Chiefs presiding who provided their insights and answered questions. You also attended the Botswana Police Service (BPS) Day celebrations as special guests and had the opportunity to
interact with senior members of BPS Leadership.

The LELD is the ILEA Program’s most rigorous course; nomination to this program is a powerful endorsement of your professional success to date and a clear indication that you have the support of your agencies as you continue to advance in your careers. As I visit with you this morning, and see a team of new leaders representing Angola, Botswana, Brazil, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, and South Africa, I recognize and deeply appreciate the multi-agency and multi-national cooperation and collaboration your participation in the program embodies. Countering transnational criminal networks requires highly professionalized, prepared, and committed networks to counter threat posed regionally and internationally.

Always remember, this is not the conclusion of your ILEA training, this is the beginning of your newfound knowledge, skills, and professional relationships. Thank you, congratulations on a job well done, and continued success! PULA!
