The U.S. Embassy in Gaborone announces that the competition for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching for International Teachers Program for 2022-2023 is open. Application forms can be accessed from the following link – https://fulbright.irex.org. The deadline for submission of applications from Botswana candidates is Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
Program Overview: The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers (Fulbright DAI) brings outstanding international primary and secondary-level educators to the United States for a semester-long program to pursue individual or group projects, take courses for professional development at a U.S. host university, and observe, collaborate, and share their expertise with U.S. colleagues in public, private, secular, and religious schools.
Program Purpose: This program is intended to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Botswana. Participants conduct research, take classes, visit schools, develop leadership skills, and build relationships with colleagues and students from the United States and around the world. They return home with new knowledge, skills, and best practices for their classrooms, schools, and communities.
Fields of Study: Competition for the DAI Program in Botswana is open to all teaching subjects.
Financial Benefit: The grant covers program costs, including transportation, lodging, host institution fees and related expenses. While abroad, grantees will receive a maintenance allowance to cover the costs of living during the program. Grantees will receive professional development funds to support research or to cover the expenses of attending a conference or workshop related to their field of teaching expertise.
Eligibility Requirements: Botswana citizens residing and working in Botswana who teach or work directly with students (as a guidance counselor, library media specialist, etc.) at least 50 percent of their time and teacher trainers are eligible to apply. Applicants must have at least three years’ experience. The strongest applicants will have five years’ experience and demonstrated leadership experience. Candidates must obtain a minimum of 61 scores on the Internet-based TOEFL. The TOEFL exam is a requirement after interviews.
Program Period: August – December 2023 (5 months).
Number of Grants Available: Botswana may nominate two finalists.
